About the Event

Set within 2000m² of the abandoned department store DANCÆ takes over the landmark location for an evening of new works combining ballet, contemporary dance, and large-scale installation.

CANK is new ballet set to electronic music that examines how our desires are shaped by the world we inhabit. Moving between romantic ideals and contemporary discourses on self-improvement, social media and self-optimization, it asks how our ideas of love, happiness and a meaningful life are constructed - and how much of what we want is ever truly of our own making.

Conceived as a fully immersive experience, spatialized video installations and a new media work extend throughout the entire space, forming an unified environment through which the audience moves and in which choreography, image and architecture unfold together.

The Performances

Ballet Sur_real, is the official ballet ensemble of DANCÆ, fuses classical ballet with electronic music, integrating immersive installations and innovative technologies into its choreographic language. The creations draw on contemporary life while delving into the deeper psychological motives that drive human behavior.
